Promotion
My promotion has been officially announced today. I have waited three and a half years for this promotion. Now that I've gotten my promotion, I'm free to move to another department, which I've contemplated doing last year but decided to hold it back because my boss told me she will be recommending me for promotion.

Moving to another department is better for me career wise as the work I'm doing now is too specialised and have absolutely no application in the industry. But the department that I want to go is laden with politics and the workload is extremely heavy. I hate politics and I am not particularly good at handling them and the extra workload doesn't really seem appetizing... I might just stay put. Anyway there's no opening in the other department at the moment...

Oh! and I get more leave with my promotion. I thought I will get 18 days but I just checked my leave record and realise I have 21 days... yeh!!

That's because you work 5 days. Actually I'm lucky, since we converted to 5 days, new stadd that joins us will have reduced leave but old staff are not affected.

Congrat! You deserve the promotion and the extra day-off. You are rewarded from above!

Heard from someone that there is nothing much to do throughout the organization. [info]inthemood4love can testify to it...hee hee. So, I gladly recommended my cousin to your organization as she has to choose amongst the grouping upon her return from her overseas scholarship.

Actually its not true. It depends on which lab you are in. There are labs which have to run trials over long periods of time. It might also not be good for your cousin to end up in a place which she doesn't learn much. Doesn't help in her resume. But if she is the non-ambitious type, then it might be ok.

I use to tell people that I'm a highly paid maid (compared to a real maid) who does mundane stuff that people in my lab would rather not do. But I think this will change this year as I am exoected to do more technical work. My lab does research in electro-optical materials and I'm like a lab technician who takes care of lab supplies, equipment, safety and also help in the R&D work.
